Power/Steam Cycle Analysis and Optimization

  • Modeling of new and existing steam cycles, including the Rankine cycle, combined cycle, and cogeneration applications
  • Output and heat rate optimization studies, including cost-benefit analyses, and associated recommendations for new plant design and existing plant modifications

Boiler and Heat Recovery Steam Generator Support (including Biomass)

  • Analysis and troubleshooting services for pulverized coal boilers, circulating fluidized bed boilers, HRSGs (unfired and fired), and boilers burning biomass (co-fired or 100%)
  • Conceptual design, estimating and cost-benefit analysis services to support recommendations for performance improvements, changes to operating conditions (e.g., from base load to cycling), life-cycle extensions, and retrofits including biomass co-firing

Air Quality Control System Analysis and Upgrade/Retrofit

  • Performance analysis of all AQCS technologies, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR), fabric filter/baghouse, wet and dry flue gas desulfurization, wet and dry electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), and duct injection systems
  • System performance troubleshooting
  • Emissions testing and analysis for permit compliance
  • Conceptual design, estimating, and cost-benefit analysis services to support recommendations for AQCS upgrades and retrofits

Renewables Technology (Solar Thermal, Solar Photovoltaic, Wind)

  • Technology assessment of applications for solar thermal and solar PV, including thermal tower, parabolic trough, Fresnel collector, and PV technologies including concentrating PV systems
  • PV systems: evaluation of appropriate tracking systems
  • Solar thermal systems: evaluation of alternate thermal storage systems
  • All technologies, including wind: assistance with project development, permit support, and conceptual design and estimating

CO2 Capture and Sequestration Studies

  • Technical and economic assessment of CO2 capture technologies (pre-combustion and post-combustion) for existing and proposed power plants
  • Conceptual design and estimating services for new and retrofit applications of CO2 capture plants
