Hoax: Fictitious Job Opportunities at Bechtel

Bechtel periodically becomes aware of email and internet hoaxes that involve solicitation of candidates for fictitious job opportunities at Bechtel. The perpetrators of these schemes pretend to be associated with Bechtel and send emails, post websites or advertisements, or offer instant message interviews for job opportunities that do not really exist. Respondents may be asked to provide personal information or money as part of a false recruiting process. 

People making these or other similar false offers of employment are not affiliated with Bechtel in any way. The solicitations are made without Bechtel’s knowledge or approval.

Bechtel does not send unsolicited email describing open positions or offering employment, conduct interviews using instant messaging, or ask candidates to pay fees to start work with Bechtel. Although Bechtel occasionally may use email to inform employment candidates about potential job opportunities, Bechtel does so only when candidates have previously registered with Bechtel expressly for this purpose.

If you have received an unsolicited employment email or job offer, see a suspicious job posting, or are asked to make a payment to begin a job, Bechtel strongly advises you to check carefully before responding. The solicitation may be part of a phishing scheme for the purpose of identify theft or connected with some other fraudulent activity.

Bechtel lists its legitimate job openings on the careers section of its official website, www.bechtel.com and other legitimate job boards as part of the company’s corporate presence — not on the pages of individuals who claim to be representing  Bechtel. Any email from the company includes our corporate domain—“[name]@bechtel.com.”

 Los Bronces project (updated January 10, 2011)

Bechtel Chile Limitada (Bechtel) hereby officially informs the public, and in particular, the inhabitants of the city of Concepción (Chile) and surrounding areas, that it has come to its attention that a fraudulent offer is being made by certain persons by way of sending an e-mail to attract persons interested in working in the ‘Proyecto de Desarrollo Los Bronces’ (The Los Bronces Development Project) which is being developed by Bechtel in Chile.

The e-mail asks recipients to carry out a series of pre-employment medical tests, which must first be paid for by the interested party, by way of a pre-deposit into a bank account, with said costs later being reimbursed once the tests are completed. Bechtel never requires its employees to pay the cost of pre-employment medical tests; said tests are always paid for by the company directly. 

We advise you of the risks of this fraudulent offer and ask you to take the necessary steps and precautions. Bechtel reserves all rights to take all actions stipulated under the law, whether of a civil or criminal character, and apply them against those persons responsible for this crime.

Bechtel Chile Limitada (Bechtel) comunica al público, y en especial, a los habitantes de la ciudad de Concepción y sus alrededores, que ha tomado conocimiento que delincuentes están llevando a cabo una estafa mediante el envío de un correo electrónico a personas interesadas en trabajar en el Proyecto de Desarrollo Los Bronces, el cual está siendo desarrollado por Bechtel.
En dicho correo electrónico se utiliza de manera indebida el nombre y logo publicitario de Bechtel y lo suscribe un supuesto jefe de personal de Bechtel y se exige al destinatario realizar una serie de exámenes médicos pre-ocupacionales, los que deben ser pagados en forma previa por el interesado mediante depósito en una cuenta bancaria, gasto que le sería reembolsado con posterioridad a la toma de los exámenes.

BECHTEL COMUNICA AL PÚBLICO QUE NO EXIGE A SUS TRABAJADORES PAGAR EL COSTO DE EXÁMENES MÉDICOS PREOCUPACIONALES, LOS CUALES SON SIEMPRE PAGADOS EN FORMA DIRECTA POR LA EMPRESA.

El presente comunicado de prensa tiene por objeto advertir a la comunidad de los riesgos de esta estafa, para que así pueda tomar los resguardos y precauciones necesarias.

Bechtel se reserva todos los derechos y acciones que ley le confiere, ya sean de carácter penal o civil, para ser ejercidas en contra de los responsables de este delito.
 

Bechtel Construction Company UK (updated January 4, 2011)

Bechtel recently was informed about an e-mail and Internet hoax in which individuals receive e-mails, faxes, or and other documentation claiming to be job offers with “Bechtel Construction Company UK.”  We are told that individuals who respond to the e-mails are asked for money, personal information, or both.  The perpetrators of these schemes pretend to be associated with Bechtel and send e-mails, post advertisements, or offer instant message interviews for job opportunities that do not really exist. 

Please be advised that “Bechtel Construction Company UK” does not exist and these are not legitimate job offers. If you receive such e-mails or job offers, Bechtel strongly recommends that you delete them and avoid responding.
