Master's in Structural Engineering, University of Texas; Structural Engineer

Guillermo G.

I first heard about Bechtel from a friend at University of Texas. I submitted a resume to Bechtel recruiters at a career fair and was invited for an interview. I joined the Houston office in August 2006.

My first project was the Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas project in Louisiana, and I am now working on Motiva’s Port Arthur refinery expansion in Texas. As a structural engineer, I am responsible for design of steel and concrete structures. I also train newly hired employees to use our structural analysis and design software.

In 2007, I traveled to Australia to help train new structural engineers. The experience showed me the impact that Bechtel has around the world, and made me realize that choosing Bechtel was the right move for me. The level of responsibility that Bechtel gives college hires makes a person feel as if he has been with the company for many years. I want to continue working in large scale projects and also work in various Bechtel offices worldwide.

Guillermo discusses his interest in engineering and his path to becoming an engineer at Bechtel in Diversity/Careers in Engineering and Information Technology.
