Julie M.

Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Michigan Technological University; Field Coordinator

I decided I wanted to work for Bechtel because of its large-scale projects, opportunities to travel, and the company’s commitment to employees and customers. I was hired after an interview during a career fair and joined the company in May 2006.

Since then, I’ve been working in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area for Bechtel’s Communications unit as a Field Coordinator. I’ve been involved with Phases 1 and 2 of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System project for Cingular.

I get the chance to work with all parts of the project—cell site acquisition, engineering, project controls, procurement, and document controls to make sure the construction of the site is complete.

So far, the most interesting part of my job is that it is forever changing. Things don’t stay the same for long in Communications. There is always a new technology or new procedures.

I want to gain experience and knowledge that will allow me to excel in leadership positions on large scale projects all over the world.
