From Las Vegas to Dubai and Sydney to Detroit, Bechtel has been the partner of choice for more than 100 airport development projects. Customers have entrusted us with their boldest new endeavors, as well as one of the longest ongoing upgrade programs in the aviation world.
McCarran International Airport, United States
Bechtel first started work at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport in 1981. During 30 years of continuous presence at the site, we’ve managed six phases of planning, development, and expansion. Our work culminates in 2012 with completion of the 14-gate Terminal 3 expansion, bringing airport capacity to 53 million passengers per year. Over the years, projects have included terminal modifications and upgrades, new runway construction and expansions, as well as new parking and roadways. Bechtel planners have performed analyses and simulations for various aspects of the expansion, which included developing and updating the master plan, signage and way-finding programs; planning and design of an automated people mover; a security screening area; and in-depth analysis of a terminal’s vertical circulation system.
London Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom
Experts predict that traffic at Gatwick Airport will increase to 40 million assengers annually by 2020. To help deliver the infrastructure to meet this dmand, Gatwick’s new owners, led by Global Ifrastructure Partners, brought echtel aboard in this multi-billion dollar capital investment program. Bechtel planners are leading the analysis and modification of existing projects as well is providing strategic support for future capital development. Significant projects include departure and arrival areas, security screening areas, new and expanded concourses, baggage systems, and airfield modifications. All of these are designed to improve the passenger experience and help Gatwick Airport compete to grow and become London’s airport of choice.
New Doha International Airport, Qatar
Creating a leading aviation hub to handle nearly 50 million passengers annually for the rapidly developing region is an ambitious mission. State of Qatar called on Bechtel to develop a new green-field airport from the ground up starting with the master plan. Bechtel planners created the new master plan for the airport and led the passenger terminal conceptual design as well as the preliminary design for the airfield, roadways, and utilities. Bechtel’s broader role as the program manager for the project includes design and construction management for the majority of facilities on the 2,200 hectare (5,436.30 acres) site. The airport will create a new home base and hub for Qatar Airways, support the Airbus A380, and provide state-of-the-art facilities and high service levels. Once completed the airport is expected to meet the country’s aviation needs for decades to come.
