The Bechtel-SAIC Co., will support DOE's efforts to design, construct, and operate a permanent geologic repository to safely store the nation's spent nuclear fuel and other high-level radioactive waste. Currently, Yucca Mountain, nearly 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas, is under consideration as a site for the nation's high-level waste repository.
Tom Hash, President of Bechtel National, Inc., said, "The new team is looking forward to partnering with DOE to meet the short- and long-term milestones on the program. We bring outstanding project management, world-class science, and proven systems and processes to this important mission. The team combines the world's largest engineering and construction firm of Bechtel and the world-class scientific capabilities of SAIC into a dedicated program organization.
"The Bechtel-SAIC team is committed to work with DOE to implement a smooth transition of all the work activities," Hash said.
